Instructor in Biological Sciences at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. At USFSP, Joan teaches courses in majors biology, genetics and evolution. She also teaches majors biology and marine biology at UF online and during the summer semester. Prior to joining USFSP, she spent over six years managing the natural history collection at the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg. From 1998-2008, she taught in Biology at the University of Florida and worked with the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH). She received her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1998 and currently serves as a Courtesy Curator and Research Associate with the FLMNH. Her areas of interest include: Larval Ecology and Life History Evolution of Marine Invertebrates, Systematics and Natural History of Echinoderms and Management of Natural History Collections.
